SigmaSolo
Co-founding technology-enabled service businesses with experienced operators, purpose-built systems, and operating discipline from day one.
// hi, i'm neil
I build systems for high-stakes decisions: helping students navigate admissions, operators build durable companies, and teams turn judgment into repeatable work.
// 01 - about
I grew up in Washington, DC, a place that teaches you early how much institutions, schools, and networks can shape a life. At Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, that lesson became personal. I saw how a serious peer group can raise someone's standards almost overnight, and I became interested in the systems that help ambitious students find the right environment at the right time.
That interest became EduAvenues®. What began as helping families navigate TJ admissions grew into broader work across selective high schools, college admissions, student research, AI, and career pathways. I keep returning to the same question: how do you take judgment that usually lives in someone's head and turn it into something more students and families can use?
I followed a version of that question into markets. I studied finance and applied statistics at the University of Virginia, worked at GreenSky®, a fintech later acquired by Goldman Sachs, continued inside Goldman Sachs, and later worked in private equity at Evergreen by Alpine Investors. Those chapters taught me consumer credit, modeling, incentives, and the difference between a clean pitch and a durable business.
SigmaSolo is the next expression of that pattern. I am drawn to businesses where real expertise is trapped in a person's head, spreadsheet, or operating routine. The work is to give that expertise structure: capital, software, and process, without stripping away the judgment that made it valuable in the first place.
Outside work, life is anchored by Kate, my girlfriend, and Newton, my Aussiedoodle. They keep the work honest: what I build should be useful in real life and durable enough to hold up over time.
// community
I have volunteered with or supported a few education communities that shaped how I think about ambition, access, and what students can build when the right peers are around them.
